[Current Music |I'm so excited - Pointer Sisters]

This morning, I took and passed the PHR certification exam. I spent the last 5 months studying for the thing and it paid off. I am so excited that if I could do backflips without killing myself, I would.

Life is pretty good right now. [Mar. 25th, 2007|09:55 am]
[Current Mood | mellow]
[Current Music |Shoots and Ladders - Korn]

Yeah, it's been a while since I posted anything, but my life lately has been full of stress and not much fun.  Work isn't awful, but it's stressful.  I realize that if it was fun, it wouldn't be called work, but lately it's been a bit overwhelming.

This year, some of our most excellent  friends invited us to a seder at their house, and I'm really excited to see how someone else does it..  It makes me feel really good that people like us enough to share the seder with us.  For years our family picked up "strays" - those who had no place to go for various important holidays would share it with us - now I get to be a stray.  It's a very neat feeling to know that "You like me!  You really like me."  Easter will be with Rick's family, as usual, and it's always a good time.

Rick and I have made the very adult decision to start the process to purchase a house.  This past week, we contacted a realtor and today we are going to check out open houses.  To me this is an exciting new venture, having never owned a house before, also it's a rather scary one as I've never spent that much money on anything, at least, not all at once.  We're not rushing into anything, but my desire is to be out of our apartment before my next birthday.

Well, that's my update...

NJ quiz [Jun. 4th, 2006|12:07 am]
[Current Mood | amused]

Considering I'm not actually from the state...but grew up within 20 miles of the Jersey side of the GWB, I'd say not to shabby.

You Are 39% New Jersey!

You've got a little Jersey in you. Not too bad, however you could have done a lot better. Based on this score, you may not actually be from New Jersey. You're missing out!

I need a vacation... [May. 25th, 2006|07:40 am]
[Current Mood | stressed]
[Current Music |I Wanna Be Sedated - the Ramones]

OK, so between wedding planning, moving planning, and general work related crap, I'm kind of stressed. I'm sure I've been taking it out on Rick (or at least, I haven't been much fun lately, either way, babe, I'm sorry!!).

For those who haven't yet been told, Rick and I are moving into a place near where I work in King of Prussia. It's a cute 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment on the 3rd floor of a garden style apartment (read walk up). So, I'm freaking out because (a) I need to find a mover, (b) I have very few weekends that aren't filled to the brim between when we take posession of the apartment and the wedding and (c) I HATE MOVING. I wish I could delegate some of this to someone else, but since it's my stuff, I kind of have to be the one to pack it up. *sigh* One of the reasons we're moving is the commute, my commute will be reduced from a 16 mile drive (which takes anywhere between 20 minutes on a really, really good day and almost 2 hours on a really, really bad day) to a 5 minute walk. Rick will have a 6.5 mile drive reverse commuting to work, so both of us make out pretty well. I just have to get there.

Wedding planning is almost done, but we still need to plan what we're doing on our Honeymoon, and figure out where the hell to store all of the gifts. Not the least of my worries is transferring all of my legal and insurance documents into my new name, setting up a checking account in both Rick's and my names, and just generally getting in touch with all of the vendors and making sure that everything is still going according to plan. All of my vacation time went to the Honeymoon, which is great, because it will be a fabulous trip, but between now and September, I can't take any days off unless I call out sick...which I'm going to have to do at least once, so we can go get our marriage license.

Work sucks because I lost a co-worker (she left, she didn't die), and now I'm doing 2 jobs. My hours are supposed to be 8:30 - 5, but I never really get out of work that early -- usually it's more like 6, so between commuting and working, my days are about 12 hours long.

Off to work now...time to fight the Schuylkill. Hopefully it won't be too bad today.........

Is it Friday yet??

the Cutting Edge
(52% dark, 50% spontaneous, 31% vulgar)
your humor style:
CLEAN | SPONTANEOUS | DARK

Your humor's mostly innocent and off-the-cuff, but somehow there's something slightly menacing about you. Part of your humor is making people a little uncomfortable, even if the things you say aren't themselves confrontational. You probably have a very dry delivery, or are seriously over-the-top.

Your type is the most likely to appreciate a good insult and/or broken bone and/or very very fat person dancing.

Bizarre findings... [Apr. 13th, 2006|11:35 pm]
[Current Mood | impressed]

I was flipping through the radio, trying to find a news station in Philly. I immediately landed on 1060...so I made it a preset. I kept flipping to see what was available, and I landed on 1130. It was curious, because in NY 1130 is a Bloomberg news station...so I start listening. Turns out, it's the SAME station!! Now I don't know whether or not the station is re-broadcasting out of Philly or what, but if not, that's one heckuva powerful signal!

Happy Passover/Easter to all and to all a good night.

I hate the Schuylkill Expressway!! [Mar. 12th, 2006|12:00 pm]
[Current Mood | apathetic]
[Current Music |Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John]

Like many, many, many people, I take the Schuylkill every day to go to work. Some days, it takes me 30 minutes (like Friday), other days it takes over an hour (like Thursday where it took 1 hour and 10 minutes to get to work). Most days it's 45. I'm reverse commuting, it's supposed to be easier, but it's not. I maquested a route that doesn't involve the highway. I may try it on my way home one day...that way if I get lost, stuck or otherwise discombobulated, I don't have to worry about getting to work on time -- because if it takes me 2 hours to get home, at least I'm going home, right?

*sigh*

I'm enjoying the job so far, even though I don't yet know what I'm doing...the people are really nice and I'm even starting to make a few friends.

Happy Birthday to me! [Feb. 27th, 2006|10:14 pm]
[Current Mood | loved]

Today was a fantastic day. I woke up to the melodic ringing of my phone -- mom -- wishing me a happy birthday. At 11, Rick and I went to see Body Worlds at the Franklin Institute, which was fabulous. It's a tad macabre, but it was fascinating...we also did the giant heart (which is open again) and some other things at the FI. We went to lunch and headed back to my place, where we watched Madagascar (a gift from his folks). At 7 we had reservations at Morimoto's...a place I would highly recommend for anyone who likes Japanese food and needs a good place to go for an occasion!

Rick just left, and I'm preparing myself mentally and physically (by picking out my clothes tonight) for my first day of work at my new place of business.

Life is pretty good right now...and it just keeps getting better!!

I got a job!!! [Feb. 21st, 2006|11:22 am]
[Current Mood | bouncy]
[Current Music |Always look on the bright side of life - Life of Brian]

After months of trials and tribulations, I am finally employed.  I will be starting my new job at Morgan Properties on February 28th -- a job, the best birthday present ever!!

The company is located in King of Prussia, PA -- right near the mall -- very dangerous location. Since Rick just got a job up there, I'm guessing that we'll probably move out there before too long.

I will be working as an HR Representative. Mostly, that will entail recruiting, the company is a property management group, so I'll be recruiting for everything from sales reps to maintenance personnel, but since it's a department of 4 people, I'm sure I will get involved in a little bit of everything.

You can get more information on them by going to www.morgan-properties.com.

Thank you for all of your good wishes and happy thoughts

Boredom reigns supreme! [Feb. 1st, 2006|05:39 pm]
[Current Mood | bored]
[Current Music |the 5:00 news in the background.]

OK...so I got really bored and I got my nails done -- tips to be exact. I do this about once a year when I decide that I just can't stop chewing on my nails all by myself. On the upside, it makes my hands look really good, and maybe it will get me a job because I won't have chewed off stubs. The downside is that it gets a bit expensive...but in the immortal words of L'Oreal "I'm worth it".

Here's a picture of my hand. Notice how my nails showcase the pretty engagement ring I got almost a year ago. Sometimes it takes so little to make me happy.

I have an un-job!! [Jan. 9th, 2006|01:51 pm]
[Current Mood | anxious]
[Current Music |Same Ol' Situation - Motley Crue]

Well, I'm employed --- sort of. I have a temp assignment 2 days per week for the next few weeks. It gets me out of the house, that's for sure, but the last few days I worked last week, were painfully boring. It seems like the guy I report to isn't used to dealing with anyone but his own secretary, either that or he doesn't actually need one, but I'm being paid a fair amount of money to be a file clerk. It'll at least get me out of the house and maybe out of this depression I've been in for the last month or so. Still looking for a real job, and I'm having a lot of success with sending out resumes and getting interviews, but far less with actually closing the deal. *sigh*

It beats the heck out of sitting in the apartment all day doing laundry, so I'll take it. I had a really good interview a few weeks ago, and they asked for my references. The person I called to follow up with was out of the office today, but I've got my fingers crossed that she'll get back to me with good news before the end of the week.

Here's hoping!!

Considering this is one of my favorite songs of 2005, and I really like Green Day, I'm quite pleased with the results.

Your 2005 Song Is

Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day

"My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating"
